Will My Dog Fit My Buddyrider?
The Buddyrider was originally designed around a 10.5kg Parsons Russell Terrier and made with as much flexibility in mind as possible. Obviously some dogs will fit better than others (weight, leg length and stature all play a role), but as a guideline the Buddyrider can seat dogs up to 11.5kg (25lbs).
Will The Buddyrider Fit My Bike?
Below is a step-by-step way to help determine whether the Buddyrider will fit your bike.
First of all, there are 3 important points to note:
- If you own a traditional ladies’ bike (with a step-through frame), the Buddy Rider will change the way you mount and dismount. With the Buddyrider attached you will need to mount and dismount like you would on a gentleman’s bike with a bar running through the center.
- If your bike has a suspension seat post, it needs to be replaced with a rigid seat post in order for the Buddyrider to be mounted high enough for fit and comfort. These can be purchased from most bike shops.
- If you have a carbon fiber seat post you MUST replace it with an aluminum or steel seat post before fitting the Buddyrider.
Fitting Checklist
Adjust and set your seat height in a safe and comfortable position, low enough so both feet can touch the ground when stationary.
- Measure the exposed seat post below your seat.
– Is it between 2.54cm and 3.17cm in diameter?
– Is there at least 4.5cm of seat post showing to attach the Buddyrider? - Next, measure at right angles the gap between the seat post and the handlebars.
– Do you have at least 48.5 cm of clearance?
If you answered “yes” to all of the above questions it’s very likely that Buddyrider will fit your bike! (Please note that some exceptions may apply).
How long will delivery take?
We deliver everywhere in NZ. All orders are dispatched the following business day.
Non-rural delivery can be overnight depending on your local courier’s schedule. Please allow an extra 3 days for rural addresses.
Do you have a refund policy?
On the rare occasion that the Buddyrider pet seat does not fit your bicycle, simply return it within 10 days (after delivery of the order) for a refund. The returned product must be unused and undamaged. Please see our refund policy for more details.
How do you recommend I take my dog for their first ride?
It’s a good idea to get your dog used to sit in the seat on the ground first before trying the bike for the first time. This will also enable you to adjust the straps safely and easier.
For your first ride, find a flat, smooth space, free from distractions for both yourself and your dog. Begin to increase the duration of your trips once you’re both confident on the bike.
