It’s important we make you aware of the inherent dangers associated with transporting pets in a bicycle pet seat
Please ensure you read these instructions carefully before placing your pet in the BuddyRider dog seat. Failure to follow these instructions could result in serious injury to yourself or your pet.
- The Buddyrider is designed to seat dogs weighing up to 11.5kg (25lbs) and fitted on bicycles with at least 48cm between the seat post and the handlebar stem.
- It’s important that your dog is fitted securely in the seat harness at all times. Just like a seat belt on a child’s car seat, the four-point harness is designed to limit unnecessary movement so your pet remains safe while enjoying the ride.
- Extreme care must be taken at all times when transporting your pet on a bicycle, as the weight and size of your pet will impact handling and weight distribution. Riders may need to take quick corrective action while riding whenever your pet adjusts their weight.
- We strongly recommend that only experienced adult cyclists, confident in their cycling abilities, should transport a pet using this dog bike seat.
- The Buddyrider is intended for pleasure riding only, not extreme cycling or racing.
- Before each ride, check that all screws and bolts are tight and secure and the seat is not cracked or broken.
- When putting in and removing your pet from the carrier, ensure the area is free from distractions, away from other animals and busy traffic.
- Do not allow your pet to be a distraction to you while riding. It’s important you focus on riding safely, being mindful of other vehicles, people and your environment.
- For your first ride, find a flat, smooth space free from distractions for both yourself and your dog. Begin to increase the duration of your trip once you’re both confident on the bike.
- NEVER leave your dog in the seat unattended. Due to the extra weight, the bike may fall over if parked on its stand without someone holding it.
- If your E-bike has it’s display over the center of the handlebars the Buddyrider will restrict your view. You can still use the assist via the controller on the outside of the bar. No issues with the Bosch displays on the outside of the handlebars
DO NOT MOUNT TO A CARBON FIBRE SEAT POST.
If you have a carbon fiber seat post it must be replaced with an aluminum or steel seat post before fitting your BuddyRider.
Pedal Pals or BuddyRider can not be held responsible if an injury does occur while using the Buddyridder bicycle seat.
1. Step One
Check all parts are included
2. Step Two
Assemble the seat by raising the front platform and securing the center support arm with the blue screw and one of the washers. Be sure not to overtighten
3. Step Three
Attach the harness as shown. Clips will be in front and behind the neck, and connected to the Buddyrider via the straps on the sides.
Leave collar unclipped for now.
4. Step Four
Attach the receiver to your bicycle seat post. There must be at least 1.75 inches of post exposed below the seat to make this connection.
Keep this connection as high up the seat post as possible. This will give the rider more legroom when peddling.
5. Step Five
Insert metal support arm, flat section up, into the receiver. Secure with the quick release pin as shown.
6. Step Six
Position the seat on the arm as far forward as possible without interfering with your handle bars or steering post.
Mark this position with a small pencil mark on the bar behind the pet seat. Remove the pet seat and then remove the metal support arm from the bike using the quick release pin.
7. Step Seven
Position the pet seat as close to the pencil mark as possible while lining up the holes. Using the four red screws and washers provided, mount the pet seat to the metal bar.
Make sure all four screws are in position before tightening. Be sure not to overtighten.
8. Step Eight
Install the assembled pet seat to the bicycle using the quick release pin and be sure to secure that with the cotter pin provided or a small pad lock.
9. Step Nine
Once the harness is attached to the Buddyrider, place your pet in the seat, connect the two clips and adjust as needed.
Buddyrider Tip!
Before attempting to ride with your little buddy, you may want to get them comfortable in the seat first while it is on the ground. Try treats to entice them to sit in the Buddyrider if they
hesitate to get in. Enjoy and have fun!
